A combined total of 2,907 consumer and commercial judgments were awarded in the first half of 2013 - this figure is down 4% on the same period in 2012 (3,021)
However, despite this drop the value of the judgment awards for failure to repay debts - €204.7m - was up 9% on the first six months of last year (€187.2m).
Almost 69% of the judgments (1,998) were awarded against consumers and these amounted to €166.6m - an average of approximately €83,393 per judgment.
The value of consumer judgment awards in the first six months of this year is up 10.5% on the same period in 2012 (€150.8m).
The Revenue Commissioner received the most judgment awards (854) worth a value of almost €40m while the banks were awarded €84.1m in 185 separate judgments for non-payment of debt.
909 judgments were awarded against companies in the first half of 2013 - down 15% on the same period in 2012 (1,068).
Despite the drop, the value of judgments this year (€38.1m) is up 5% on the first half of 2012.
Local authorities (County Councils etc) were the main beneficiaries in relation to commercial judgments receiving 283 judgments worth €17.5m.
